No. 6. The Council of the University referred
the Report to the Senate.
The University is now
in vacation and no further action is expected until
September, when the Report will be examined in detail
by the Boards of the Faculties and by the Senate.
Agreed retrenchments could still be effected in 1938,
since the budget is not presented until November.
I think it is fortunate that this delay has occurred,
since the position of the 0.A.G., who is now
ex officio Pro-Chancellor of the University but who,
acted in his capacity as Colonial Secretary, haveting as
Chairman of the Committee, is, as he points out, a
delicate one. I think we must wait for consideration
of the policy to be adopted until we receive at least
the recommendations of the Executive Council and
of the 0.A.G., and possibly until the Report has been
reviewed by the Senate.
